borrowed from Swiss German Müesli, diminutive of Mues "soft food, mush, pulp," going back to Old High German muos, going back to West Germanic *mōsa- "food, soft food" (whence Old Saxon, Old English & Old Frisian mōs "food, prepared food"), probably from *mōt-, lengthened grade derivative of *mati- "food" + a suffixal -t- — more at meat
